Bringing High-Speed Fiber Internet to Box Elder County Residents

Beehive Broadband and Box Elder County partner up to bring fiber internet to new communities

LAKE POINT, Utah (July 20, 2022) — Beehive Broadband is excited to partner with the Utah  Broadband Center and Box Elder County to bring fiber internet — for the first time — to nine  new communities. Fiber-optic internet is the latest technology offering faster speeds, greater  bandwidth and better reliability.

By means of a competitive grant program, Box Elder County Government and Beehive  Broadband were awarded $5,856,443 in grant funds, to be combined with $5,117,895 in  matching funds. The funds will be used to connect high-speed fiber networks in a number of  Northern Utah communities. These locations include Bear River City, Elwood, Howell, Mantua,  Willard and the unincorporated areas of Bothwell, Penrose, Thatcher and South Willard. When  the projects are completed, fast fiber-based internet will be available to over 3000 new locations,  including homes, businesses, farms, ranches, community anchor institutions and other public  facilities.

“This is a momentous project. New high-speed internet will open educational, business,  employment, healthcare, cultural and entertainment opportunities for thousands of people,” says  Cameron Francis, CEO of Beehive Broadband. “It has taken a lot of effort and help from so  many organizations. On behalf of everyone at Beehive Broadband, we want to give a heartfelt  thanks to Bear River Association of Governments, Box Elder County Commissioners,  Community Development Block Grant, the Utah State Broadband Grant Committee, and the  CARES Act.”

“Beehive has served half of Box Elder County for many years,” says Cameron Francis.  “Including Brigham City, Perry, Tremonton, Lucin, Lynn, Grouse Creek, Rosette, Park Valley,  Snowville and others. Expanding into these additional nine communities is a natural step in the  growth of our service.”

Four weeks ago Beehive Broadband began construction in Bothwell, the first of the nine  communities. Construction in Bothwell started early due to deadlines associated with portions of  the grant funding. The other eight communities are in the engineering and design phase with  additional construction beginning this fall.
