Patrol

 

 The Box Elder County Patrol Division Performs technical law enforcement work in enforcing the laws and protecting the citizens of Box Elder County.  Patrols assigned areas of Box Elder County in a patrol vehicle or on foot; responds to calls for assistance; secures crime scenes for evidence searches; makes preliminary investigations and interrogates complainants, witnesses and suspects. Provides follow-up assistance on related cases.  Collects and photographs evidence and helps process crime scenes.  Apprehends suspects and testifies in court as appropriate.  Works closely with Social Services, Family Services, and Mental Health.  Directs traffic, issues tickets for moving and criminal violations and investigates accidents involving motor vehicles; prepares and submits accident, offense, arrest and other forms and reports as necessary.  Assists other police agencies in Box Elder County.  Performs all duties with due regard to personal safety, and safety for fellow officers and the public.  Escorts prisoners to and from courtroom or from one location to another; subdues unruly prisoners if necessary.  Serves processes, notices, summonses and subpoenas.  Performs related law enforcement duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.         Education and Experience:

A.  Graduation from a standard senior high school,

                                                              AND

 

 

B.   P.O.S.T. Category I Certified.

 

2.         Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Working knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment; working knowledge of Box Elder County geography; knowledge of applicable laws and ordinances and departmental rules and regulations.

 

Reasonable skill in the use of firearms and the operation of police vehicles as determined by the department. Ability to observe situations, record them and react quickly and calmly; ability to deal effectively and courteously with fellow officers and the public; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to act with tact and impartiality; ability to perform work requiring good physical condition; ability to meet necessary special requirements.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS  (Certificates, Licenses, etc.)

 

Must have successfully completed Utah State POST training.

Must successfully complete a Field Training Program.

Has to complete satisfactorily a six month evaluation period as Deputy I.

Must be a resident of Box Elder County or willing to become such.

Must complete a minimum of 40 hours of P.O.S.T. training each year.

Must have a valid Utah Driver's License.

Must be able to perform essential functions of position.

No record of criminal activity or drug use.
