Box Elder County has an opening for a full-time Court Clerk I. The Court Clerk I performs a variety of routine clerical and secretarial duties to support the Justice Court.

Those interested in this position must be a high school graduate with 1 year of closely related experience.  Applicant must be accurate, concise and detail-oriented.

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

  •          Performs a variety of routine clerical and secretarial duties to support the Justice Court.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

 

  •          Works under the supervision of the Senior Court Clerk.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

 

  • Maintains files and does routine filing.  Operates a computer to input, retrieve and update the Court records.  Responsible for receiving, receipting and disbursing revenue to the proper agencies.  Quotes bail on cases.

 

  • Prepares correspondence and complete necessary court documents.  Greets the public at the windowand responds to routine questions.

 

  • Receives and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.  Answers telephones, takes messages and records the information on the computerized docket for each case.

 

  • Attends court sessions and performs support duties as required.

 

  • Must meet emergency deadlines and increased workloads with a minimum amount of problems and must be able to adapt rapidly to new procedures and methods.

 

  • Must have a working knowledge of all court procedures and serves as a backup for other clerical positions. 

 

  • Maintains liaison relationship between the court and other agencies involved in the criminal justice system.

 

  • Participates in training seminars offered by the Court Administrator's Office and other agencies as needed.

 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 


1.         Education and Experience:

A. High School diploma or equivalent with course work in use of PC, typing and office procedures (shorthand or speed writing, desirable). 

             AND

B. One year of closely related experience.

             OR

C. Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

2.  Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Must have a working knowledge of office practices, computers, and software packages; possess a knowledge and use of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation; type 40 wpm.

 

Must be able to exercise a great deal of tact and diplomacy; to make mathematical computations, to follow oral and written instructions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Physical requirements are those normally expected in an administrative office atmosphere with lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
